Six fire cabinets installed in Nangarin!

The bushfire season is upon us once again and while we have professional fire fighters to come to our assistance in times of fire, it is our responsibility as home owners to ensure that our homes are a low fire risk. It is also a top priority that we also consider our own personal safety in the event of having to protect our property from fire.

For this reason the Nangarin Executive Committee has installed 6 fire cabinets throughout the estate. Each cabinet is fitted out with fire fighting equipment that will be available to residents that have attended information sessions outlining how to use this specialised equipment in the event that they will need to protect their homes.

This equipment is provided to assist residents in PROTECTING their property in the event of a fire and until the arrival of professional fire fighters. Under NO circumstances should it be utilised to attempt to enter bush land and fight a fire.

These cabinets are locked and will remain so until required in the event of a fire. Any resident interested in obtaining a key and having access to these cabinets can do so at the following information sessions only:

Information session 1: Saturday 6th December 2008 - 3pm to 4.30pm
Information session 2: Saturday 13th December 2008 - 3pm to 4.30pm
Location: Nangarin Vineyard Estate - BBQ AREA

Information sessions will cover property protection, personal safety and hands on familiarisation with the fire equipment as well as its use in the event of a fire. You will also have the opportunity to ask any other questions you may have regarding bushfires and property protection.

Please note: In the interest of personal safety & safeguarding the equipment, keys will only be provided at the completion of each information session. Residents who have not taken part in the information sessions will not be eligible to receive a key.
In order to secure your key, please fill in the form  and book your place in one of the training sessions now! You can also call Trevor Dillon at Macarthur Strata on 4647 2400
Please complete the website form for the 2008 Information sessions

  2008 Annual General Meeting
The 2008 Annual General meeting will be held on Monday December 1 at 7:00 p.m. at the Picton Bowling Club. A complete agenda will be posted on the website in late November. This is your best opportunity to hear what's going on and to have your say.
Pink triathlon competitors from NangarinNangarin Goes Pink!

Congratulations to two of our residents who recently completed the Pink Triathlon at Homebush Bay.  This is an annual event which raises much needed money for breast cancer research.  This was Kerrie's second year in the event and finished a very respectable 6th for the swim leg and finished in the top 100 overall.  For Lin it was her first triathlon and apart from some initial nerves, also finished a very competitive 151th place out of 500+ with a time of 44:01.

The emphasis on the event is to complete the course and with local sponsorship, the ladies raised over $500.00.  Congratulations girls and well done.  Next year we will be looking for more competitors and perhaps enter a Nangarin team, so start training ladies, you have one year to prepare.

Myna Bird Trap Bully of the Bird World
Pest birds are increasing in Australia, particularly with the recent expansion in the grape and wine industry, and in the olive industry. One bird in particular is wreaking havoc in many areas, the Indian Myna.

The Indian Myna is listed among the 100 most invading bird species in the world and classed as an extreme pest in Australia. It was introduced to Australia in the 1800's to control locusts but soon became a pest in itself. Indian Mynas reduce the biodiversity of an area by competing for nesting space, destroying other bird's chicks and eggs and competing for food.

Nangarin has started its own campaign against the Indian Myna and has recently purchased its own trap. Trapping and humanely euthanizing mynas is an acceptable line of attack against these predators. A pilot program has been underway within Nangarin for several months, however there has been minimal success.

We are now seeking a volunteer in another area of the Estate, perhaps on the Northern side, who may be prepared to set and monitor the trap.  If you are interested please email your details to and a committee member will be in touch.

Anyone with information of areas in the estate where myna birds are nesting, are encouraged to inform the committee.
Nangarin weather station online
One of our own Nangarin residents has spent considerable time setting up their own electronic weather station within Nangarin. They have also connected the output of the weather station to an online server which can be viewed by us at anytime. For more information!
